A cement plant located at Riyadh Saudi Arabia with Captive power plant generating 34 Mwe of power @ 11 KV / 60 HZ .
In order to meet the shortage of power evidenced due to the expansion project, the management decided to opt for the LFO based 2 X 2.5 MWE power plant and ordered the same from UNIDAAN FZ LLC.
UNIDAAN FZ LLC , Located at Dubai sourced the generators from DLD China and assigned the electrical and Instrumentation system supply to GPCE.
GPCE Scope was to design, supply, erect and commission:
11 KV, 31.5 KA MV systems.
400 V LV systems.
Control system for the generators.
Interfacing of new power plant with existing 34 MW power plant
Supply and interfacing of the control system between new and old plant.
Major challenges were pointed below:
Since the Old plant was having the Woodward 723 system which was operation in KW/ISO modes, the new system was designed in view of this and interfacing was successfully completed after few trials (since the speed and ratings of the generators were different).
AVR (ABB Unitrol 1000) interface was much simpler and interface between new and old was done without any hindrance.
